Troubled Waters
The article about rising water levels through the Anderson Dock was enjoyable reading. And, as indicated the changing climate is a large concern for the Great Lakes. There are other factors that are affecting the water levels. Consider the enormity of groundwater (aquifer) depletion in the Great Lakes region. In a little over 100 years, enough water has been pumped out of the aquifers to fill lake Erie twice. And the aquifers that took centuries to fill cannot replenish themselves. Since 2000, the rate of depletion has tripled. Where does all of the water go? But the science of climate has been somewhat obscured by the political movement we call climate change; at best a truth stew. We need to address climate challenges, but need to recognize CO2 is not the only factor, and it's removal not the only solution to the problems we face.
